Fans of the God of War franchise have reason to celebrate, as PlayStation has officially announced both a remake of the original Greek trilogy and a brand new installment, God of War: Sons of Sparta. The announcements came as part of a recent State of Play presentation, delivering a double dose of news for devotees of the action-adventure series.

The God of War Trilogy Remake, while confirmed, remains shrouded in some mystery. TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, revealed that details will be scarce for the time being, stating, “we’re not going to see more of the game for some time.” However, he hinted at a substantial overhaul, suggesting the remake will be more than just a visual upgrade. This signals a potential reimagining of the beloved combat system, though the extent of those changes remains to be seen.

Alongside the remake news, a “passion project” developed in collaboration between Sony Santa Monica and Mega Cat Studios was unveiled: God of War: Sons of Sparta. This new title takes players back to Kratos’s earlier days as a Spartan warrior, battling mythical creatures in ancient Greece. The game is described as a metroidvania-style experience, offering a different gameplay perspective within the established God of War universe.

The confirmation of the trilogy remake has sparked speculation about the scope of the project. Given the use of the term “remake,” it’s likely to involve significant changes beyond simple graphical enhancements. Sony Santa Monica may be planning to add new features or refine existing mechanics in the classic titles. More details are expected to be revealed in future announcements.
