Norwegian authorities are preparing to deploy a bomb disposal unit to Trondheim after a suspicious object resembling a hand grenade was discovered following a reported break-in.
The incident began after a break-in was reported overnight at a building in Trondheim, Norway, where staff subsequently discovered the suspicious item.
Police have identified the object as resembling a hand grenade.
“It is being treated as live ordnance until the bomb squad arrives and can make a more thorough assessment,” said Christopher James White, an operations leader with the Trondheim police.
As of 11:15 AM local time, authorities announced that the Norwegian Armed Forces will assist in rendering the object safe, deploying a team from Ørland Air Station expected to arrive on scene later in the day.
Residents in the vicinity are being advised to stay away from windows and preserve them closed as a precaution.
The discovery was made in the Buran area, located east of Trondheim’s city center.
Earlier, at 9:54 AM, police reported conferring with the bomb squad and establishing a 100-meter safety perimeter. Authorities stated that evacuation of residents was not deemed necessary, though pedestrian access to the area was restricted.
