Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has openly lauded Barcelona’s current form under head coach Hansi Flick. Guardiola has made it clear he enjoys watching Barcelona play under Flick’s leadership, even making time specifically to tune in to their matches.
Guardiola described Barcelona’s current style of play as thoroughly entertaining, comparing the experience to enjoying a film or a fine dining experience.
“When Flick’s Barca play and I have time, I will sit and watch it—given that it is enjoyable,” Guardiola said in an interview with TV3.

He also believes that soccer is often overcomplicated, when its core purpose is simple: entertainment.
“Sometimes we overthink things. But, like going to the cinema or a good restaurant, we want to enjoy it. Can you name a time you didn’t enjoy watching Barcelona?” he added.
Flick’s Bold Approach
Hansi Flick took the reins at Barcelona in the summer of 2024, replacing Xavi Hernández, and immediately implemented an aggressive style of play. This approach is characterized by a high defensive line, rapid and relentless attacks, and intense pressing of opponents.
Although carrying inherent risk, this strategy has proven remarkably successful. It’s a high-risk, high-reward philosophy, and the captivating style of play has clearly impressed a tactical mind like Guardiola’s.
Under Flick’s guidance, Barcelona has already secured titles in LaLiga 2024/25, the Copa del Rey 2024/25, and the Supercopa de España in both 2025, and 2026.
