Guillermo Abascal has departed as manager of Atlético de San Luis following a defeat to León, the club announced Monday. The move comes after 12 matchdays in the Torneo Clausura 2026 of the Liga BBVA MX, with Atlético de San Luis currently 15th in the league table.

“The Club informs that, by mutual agreement, an agreement has been reached with Mr. Guillermo Abascal to conclude his stage as Technical Director of our first men’s team,” the team statement read.

“We thank Guillermo and his coaching staff for the dedication and professionalism shown at all times during their management of the team.”

During the current campaign, Abascal recorded three wins, two draws, and six losses while in charge of Atlético de San Luis. He was as well absent from the sidelines during Jornada 5 due to a red card and subsequent suspension from the Comisión Disciplinaria.

Since joining the Potosino squad, the Spanish manager oversaw a total of 32 matches, achieving eight victories, three draws, and 17 losses in Liga BBVA MX play. He also led the team to two wins and one defeat in the Leagues Cup.

Despite the challenging results under Abascal, forward Joao Pedro Geraldino currently leads the Torneo Clausura 2026 in scoring with 10 goals. The 34-year-old is aiming to repeat as the tournament’s top goalscorer from the previous season.

Atlético de San Luis will resume play after the FIFA break on April 4, visiting Rayados de Monterrey at Estadio BBVA for Jornada 13.
