Jente Hauttekeete finished sixth in the heptathlon, while Michael Obasuyi advanced to the semifinals of the 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Hauttekeete concluded her heptathlon competition in sixth place. The championships, held in Torun, Poland, showcase some of the world’s top indoor track and field athletes.
Obasuyi secured his spot in the semifinals with a time of 7.60 seconds in the fifth heat, finishing behind Poland’s Jakub Szymanski (7.50) and Japan’s Shusei Nomoto (7.57). His time was the 12th fastest overall. American Trey Cunningham led all competitors with a time of 7.45.
Obasuyi’s personal best in the 60m hurdles is 7.54, while the Belgian national record stands at 7.50, held by Elie Bacari since January. This marks Obasuyi’s fourth appearance at the World Indoor Championships; he reached the final in Nanjing last year, finishing fifth.
The semifinals are scheduled for 7:48 PM local time, with the final to follow shortly after at 9:02 PM.
In other action, the Belgian mixed 4x400m relay team of Jonathan Sacoor, Ilana Hanssens, Julien Watrin, and Helena Ponette will compete in the final. Alexander Doom was held out of the relay to prepare for the Belgian Tornados’ competition on Sunday. The team will face competition from Spain, Jamaica, Poland, the United States, and the Netherlands.
The mixed 4x400m relay is a relatively new event, having been introduced at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn and the World Outdoor Championships in Tokyo last year. At the European Championships, Julien Watrin, Imke Vervaet, Christian Iguacel, and Helena Ponette earned a silver medal, while Dylan Borlée, Imke Vervaet, Alexander Doom, and Helena Ponette secured a bronze medal at the World Championships.
