According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Doğan of the Cardiology Clinic at Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital, the perception that youth provides immunity to heart attacks is a dangerous misconception. “I am young, I won’t have a heart attack,” is a common sentiment that Doğan warns is incorrect, as cardiovascular diseases continue to be a leading cause of death globally.
A primary driver of this shift is the increasing prevalence of electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products among the new generation. These devices, alongside traditional smoking, are significantly elevating the risk of heart attacks in young adults. This trend underscores a critical public health challenge as vaping becomes more widespread.
