Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets and drones toward Israel late Monday, November 19, 2025, escalating tensions in the region and marking the first such attack since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire went into effect in November 2024. The move comes amid a broader escalation of conflict involving Iran and its proxies, raising concerns about a wider regional war.

The group claimed responsibility for firing a “swarm of rockets and drones” at a military base south of Haifa, stating the attack was in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This development underscores growing regional instability and the potential for further retaliatory strikes.

According to a statement released by Hezbollah, the attack targeted a missile defense facility in Mishmar HaCarmel at midnight Monday. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that rockets were launched from southern Lebanon. While one projectile was intercepted, others landed in open areas, with no reports of casualties or significant damage.

Shortly after the rocket fire, Israel responded with airstrikes against targets in Lebanon. The IDF confirmed it struck “high-ranking Hezbollah terrorists” in the Beirut area early Monday local time.

Further strikes targeted a “Hezbollah terrorist center” in southern Lebanon, as well as locations in the Bekaa Valley, infrastructure, and “high-ranking Hezbollah operatives,” according to an IDF statement.

Israel also issued evacuation warnings for nearly 50 villages in southern Lebanon. A statement from Israel warned that anyone associated with Hezbollah – its members, facilities, or military resources – was putting their life at risk.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned Hezbollah’s rocket attack, calling it “a reckless and suspicious act” that threatened Lebanon’s security and provided Israel with a pretext for further strikes.

Escalating Conflict with Iran

The recent exchange of fire follows warnings from leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom to Iran, threatening to join the U.S. And Israel in operations if Tehran does not halt attacks on countries not involved in the conflict.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced that the U.S. Had been granted permission to use British military bases in the Middle East for “defensive” strikes.
