Hezbollah Claims Strike on Israeli Naval Vessel Amid Escalating Border Conflict
Hezbollah reported hitting an Israeli military vessel off the Lebanese coast on Sunday, April 5, 2026, as fighting between the group and the Israeli military intensified across southern Lebanon. The claim comes amid a series of coordinated strikes by Hezbollah. The group reported shelling Israeli soldiers in Ainata and targeting troop gatherings at Ghadmatha hill within the same town. The group launched rocket attacks against military concentrations in the Al-Seder area and released footage showing the targeting of two Israeli tanks in Wadi al-Uyun. Other reported attacks included rocket and kamikaze drone strikes on the Al-Malkiya settlement and its military barracks, as well as strikes on soldiers and vehicles in Al-Bayada and Maroun al-Ras. The Israeli military responded with an intensive aerial campaign. On the night of April 4 and into the morning of April 5, warplanes conducted raids on several southern villages, including Sadiqin, Kafra, Ain Baal, Batoulyeh, and Wadi al-Hujair. The town of Kfarhaty in the Saida district was hit by six separate strikes. In a separate statement, the Israeli army claimed to have killed dozens of Hezbollah militants over the previous 24 hours during operations in southern Lebanon. Military officials stated they destroyed command centers, weapon depots, and underground tunnels, and arrested a Hezbollah member who was monitoring troop movements. This surge in violence is part of a broader escalation that began on February 28, linked to an ongoing conflict with Iran. Hezbollah has been coordinating its rocket fire with Iranian launches, specifically targeting Haifa and the Upper and Middle Galilee regions of northern Israel. The conflict has taken a strategic turn with reports from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz indicating that the Israeli army has threatened a “full occupation” of Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah. This comes alongside discussions of expanding a buffer zone in the south. Israeli forces have also targeted infrastructure in the southern suburbs of Beirut and announced plans to bomb two bridges over the Litani River in the Western Beqaa region. The intensifying exchange of fire underscores a dangerous expansion of the conflict, as both sides employ heavy artillery and aerial bombardment in a bid to secure tactical advantages along the border.
