Some retirees may see increased pension payments in 2026, as their benefits are recalculated and potentially increased. The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is nearing completion of the recalculation of so-called June pensions. According to the latest data from ZUS, the amount of 215,500 benefits has been reassessed to date. The changes are most beneficial to women.
Pension Recalculation 2026 – Who Does It Affect?
Since the beginning of 2026, ZUS has been reassessing benefits for individuals who retired in June between 2009 and 2019, as well as those receiving family pensions based on those pensions. These are the so-called June pensions, which for years were calculated using less favorable rules for indexing contributions.
The vast majority of cases involve pensions – 97% of all recalculations. Family pensions account for approximately 3% of cases.

Women Most Often Receive Pension Increases
The recalculation most often affects women. According to ZUS data, they account for approximately 74% of all beneficiaries covered by the changes.
This means that women from the cohorts covered by the so-called June pensions are most likely to receive increases and adjustments to their payments. The recalculations come as part of a broader effort to address historical inequities in pension calculations.

This means that nearly three-quarters of all recalculated pensions concern women. What we have is mainly because:
- women retire earlier (age 60),
- in the years 2009-2019, many women reached retirement age, and therefore more often retired in June, when less favorable rules for indexing contributions were in force.
Most Benefits Are Higher – Data from ZUS
Early data from ZUS indicated a potential increase of over 200 zł per month. However, as the recalculations progress, the average increase in benefits is now around 170 zł gross per month.
Among those who have already received recalculated benefits, 98,800 people received a higher pension, even as in other cases the amount of the benefit remained unchanged.
Is It Necessary to Submit an Application to ZUS?
The recalculation of June pensions is carried out automatically. This means that individuals covered by the changes do not need to submit any applications or provide documents.
After the recalculation is completed, ZUS issues a new decision and sends it to the beneficiary.
When Will ZUS Complete the Pension Recalculations?
The Social Insurance Institution is implementing the law according to schedule. All cases are to be completed no later than March 31, 2026. By that date, more individuals will receive new decisions and higher benefits.
To date, over 168,000 decisions have already been sent to clients. The final letters are expected to reach pensioners in April.
