Hilary Duff turned heads Monday night on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” with a striking performance of her single, “Roommates.” The singer’s look, a white gown designed to appear dripping wet, immediately drew attention and sparked conversation online.

The 38-year-old actress and musician styled the draped dress – created by London-based label Di Petsa – with Gianvito Rossi translucent slingback pumps priced at $995.

The outfit was a direct echo of the aesthetic from the “Roommates” music video, released in January, where Duff dances barefoot in the rain. However, for her appearance on “Fallon,” she achieved the drenched effect without a single drop of water.

Di Petsa’s signature “wet look” is achieved through a unique combination of draping and stitching, creating the illusion of soaked fabric. The technique has become a favorite among celebrities, including the Hadid sisters, Shakira, and Lizzo.

Designer Dimitra Petsa explained the inspiration behind the look to Page Six Style, stating, “If you cry in public; you have to hide it. If you sweat in public; you have to hide it. If you breastfeed in public; you have to hide it.” She continued, “So what I wanted was to create a look that makes you look like you’re wet even though you’re not — to celebrate our wetness.”

Each Di Petsa design is meticulously sewn by hand, typically taking two to three weeks to complete. Duff’s gown originally debuted last month at London Fashion Week as part of the label’s Fall 2026 “Medusa’s Lover” collection.

Duff began the performance draped across a leather chair on a set designed to resemble a bedroom, before launching into the song. “Roommates” is a track from her recently released album, “Luck … or Something,” which arrived on February 20th.

The singer co-wrote “Roommates” with her husband, musician Matthew Koma, and producer Brian Phillips, describing the song as capturing “that ache for a wilder, freer time — before the days were swallowed by carpools, budget talks, grocery runs.” The album marks Duff’s first full-length release since 2015’s “Breathe In. Breathe Out.”

During her appearance on “The Tonight Show,” Duff also chatted with Jimmy Fallon about her childhood obsession with the Olsen twins and participated in a playful “Sip & Sing” challenge.

Duff is set to kick off her “Lucky Me” world tour this summer, marking her first arena tour in two decades. The tour is expected to draw fans eager to hear her new music and revisit her classic hits.
