Honduran President Eyes Stronger Ties with Chile Under Kast Administration
Honduras is looking to deepen its relationship with Chile as José Antonio Kast prepares to take office, according to Honduran President Nasry Asfura. The announcement came following a bilateral meeting with Spain’s King Felipe VI in Vitacura.
Asfura noted that March 29th will mark 160 years of diplomatic relations between Honduras and Chile, expressing his desire to “structure and strengthen” the partnership during his term and that of President Kast. This move underscores the importance of regional alliances for the incoming Honduran administration.
“There are many things we can exchange,” Asfura said, highlighting potential for increased trade and Chilean investment in Honduras. “We must strengthen the bonds of friendship between Honduras and Chile and the rest of Latin America.”
The Honduran president also addressed the relationship Latin America should maintain with U.S. President Donald Trump, stating, “Today we are experiencing very special moments in the world, where everyone is responsible for and takes care of their country and its borders, and we must understand.”
When asked about comments made by Chilean President Gabriel Boric regarding Trump, Asfura added, “Everyone has their own way of expressing, and thinking.”
