A Family of Five Perished in a House Fire in Malaysia, Authorities Say

A devastating house fire in Wan Lai Wang, Malaysia, on February 13, 2026, claimed the lives of a woman and four children, according to reports. The incident highlights the tragic consequences of residential fires and the challenges faced by emergency responders in densely populated areas.

The 35-year-old husband, Mohamad Kerudin, managed to escape the blaze through a back window, sustaining injuries. His wife, 37-year-old Laila Fatina, and their four children – 13-year-old Nur Damia Badrulisa, 7-year-old Izda Fahafi Zudin, 6-year-old Nur Dalila Katigia, and 4-year-old Izda Naufal Fadi – were trapped inside and died at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest the house’s main door, side door, and back door were all locked, potentially hindering the family’s ability to escape. Authorities believe this contributed to the fatalities. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters arrived to find the residence approximately 80% engulfed in flames. There were also reports that the wife may have been pregnant, pending confirmation by forensic examination.

The husband reportedly attempted to rescue his family but was hampered by a broken leg, sustained in a previous car accident, and the thick smoke. He was unable to reach them in time.

The incident underscores the importance of fire safety measures and the demand for clear escape routes in residential buildings.
