Shandong Province Showcases Film Industry at Hong Kong International Film & TV Expo

Shandong Province is making a significant push to elevate its film and television industry on the international stage. A delegation from the province participated in the 30th Hong Kong International Film & TV Expo (Filmart), which opened on March 17, 2026, marking their 11th appearance at the event. The expo, Asia’s largest of its kind, serves as a crucial platform for copyright trading, technical exchange, and project promotion.

The Shandong Film Bureau organized the participation of leading provincial film and television enterprises and projects, aiming to foster collaboration and development with both domestic and international industry professionals. The initiative seeks to bolster the “Good Guest Shandong, Good Products Shandong” brand and promote the expansion of Shandong’s film industry globally, according to Shandong Provincial People’s Government reports.

During Filmart, the Shandong delegation hosted promotional events for the Qingdao “Oriental Film Metropolis” and the Dezhou “Leling Film City,” showcasing the high-quality film resources available in these locations and seeking recent cooperative opportunities. They also engaged in discussions regarding overseas film screenings, high-quality content creation, base construction, and film industry fund collaborations, with the goal of securing investment and expanding international distribution channels.

This year’s Shandong contingent included Qingdao Oriental Film Industry Holding Group, Qingdao Orange River Film & TV Culture Media Co., Ltd., Qingdao Hua Yu Century Film & TV Culture Media Co., Ltd., Qingdao Zhengming Film Co., Ltd., Leling City Investment & Development Group, and Shandong Lingjing Culture Media Co., Ltd., among others, as reported by QQ News.

Shandong Province has been actively pursuing a “Strong Film Province” strategy, implementing the “Qilu Literary Peak Plan” and introducing various policies to revitalize the “Lu Film” and “Lu Drama” industries. The province currently boasts a range of distinctive filming locations, including the Yimeng Red Film Base in Linyi, the Xiangdao Bay Film Town in Yantai, and scenic areas in Zibo, Weifang, Jining, and Heze that cater to diverse filming needs. The province’s presence at Filmart represents both an opportunity to showcase its growing capabilities and to learn from international best practices, driving quality improvements and industry upgrades.

The expo, which runs through March 20, 2026, is bringing together over 790 exhibitors from around the globe, according to People’s Daily. The event underscores Hong Kong’s role as a key hub for cultural exchange and the internationalization of Chinese content, as highlighted by Sina Finance.

Shandong brought 38 film projects to the expo, as detailed by Iqilu Evening News, aiming to attract international collaboration and investment.
