A lavish penthouse overlooking the Donkmeer lake in Berlare, Belgium, has been relisted for sale just a short time after its purchase, and the owner says it’s a property unlike any other – even in the exclusive resort town of Knokke.
The owner, identified only as Houssine, is asking €1.35 million (approximately $1.47 million USD) for the property, which he described as having “a view that changes every day.” According to reports from Het Laatste Nieuws, Houssine had long dreamed of living in the penthouse, passing the building frequently and envisioning himself in the top-floor residence.
“Every time I passed this apartment building right by the Donkmeer, I dreamed of living in the penthouse,” he said. When the property became available, he found the spectacular view wasn’t the only justification for the price tag. The penthouse offers more space than a typical home and boasts unparalleled finishes.
“The experience is different every day,” Houssine added. The quick resale highlights the dynamic nature of the luxury real estate market, where even dream properties can be subject to shifting priorities.
Meanwhile, in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, another high-profile real estate deal recently made headlines. In March 2025, Belgian billionaire Marc Coucke purchased a luxury villa in Het Zoute for over €30 million (approximately $32.5 million USD), marking the most expensive villa ever sold in Belgium, according to PureLuxe and Pallen.be. The purchase surpassed the previous record, held by Coucke’s business partner Bart Versluys.
Coucke’s villa, situated near the golf course in the exclusive Het Zoute neighborhood, spans over 3,000 square meters and offers panoramic views. The area is also home to other prominent figures, including entrepreneur Jan De Clerck of Domo Group, a descendant of former German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, and a member of the Brenninkmeijer family (C&A). The property was purchased from the Piron family, owners of the Thomas & Piron construction company.
The sale of Coucke’s villa underscores Knokke-Heist’s reputation as a leading destination for exclusive real estate on the Belgian coast. Properties in the area, such as the Manoir du Dragon and Fort Sint-Pol, are valued at €30 million or more, according to Pallen.be. The market continues to attract high-net-worth individuals seeking luxury and prestige.
