Chilean rodeo competitors Luis Huenchul and Felipe Undurraga have secured their third qualification for the San Clemente competition, solidifying their position as top contenders in the national rodeo circuit. The success comes as the sport gains increasing attention across the country.

The Criadero Doña Dominga C.S. team achieved the victory this weekend at the Rodeo Provincial Especial en Series Libres hosted by the Club Lago Ranco “Alfonso Brandt” of the Asociación Valdivia, completing their third qualifying team for the Clasificatorio Centro of San Clemente.

Luis Huenchul and Felipe Undurraga will enter the selective competition with a full team, after earning a total of 27 points with mares Linda Noche and Calumnia.

Huenchul expressed his satisfaction with the achievement, telling Caballoyrodeo.cl: “I am happy with the result, for the breeding farm and for the mares. It had been a little difficult, the requirement had been a bit elusive, given that we had been fighting for it several times and couldn’t reach it. This time it was achieved, it was done well, the mares performed very well and I am happy.”

“Now we are back and everything starts from zero. We are with the horses at the veterinarian to heal them, work them and everything. We have the three teams complete, my son José Domingo is ready for the rienda with his impeccable horse, what more can I question for in life? All the objectives have been met, I am very happy about that,” he added.

The former Chilean champion commented on the Provincial rodeo, saying: “It was a very entertaining, very good rodeo. Mario Pablo competed, qualified two teams with Diego Pacheco chico. We are very happy, it was a complete weekend. I am very happy, you couldn’t ask for more.”

Regarding the future of the breeding farm, he stated: “Right now I am with the horses in the stalls to witness them with the doctor. They arrived today at 03:00, so they are resting a bit and then will continue their treatment.”

“We have a lot of optimism, although this year it will be more difficult because the possibility is one. To the last rodeos always comes a horse with an injury or something, as is the case with us that we have a mare with an injury in one hand and I don’t know if we are going to reach to recover it. The new regulations do not favor us much, but well, that’s how it was written and that’s how we have to read it,” he concluded.

Cristián Jaures and Boris Bastidas placed second, riding Cullaima Guarén and El Tani Barullo with 26 points.

Juan Carlos Loaiza and his son Juan José Loaiza finished third, on El Eco Caprichosa and Casas del Parque La Bruja with 25 points and an additional six in the tiebreaker.

The Criadero Trumao, with Matías Calvo and Vicente Carmona on Vendimia and Doña Lore, also competed in the fourth round, earning 25+5 points; Gastón Rademache and Gabriel González on Cotrilla Curiosa and Santa Bárbara de Los Guaicos Farandulera scored 20; and the Criadero Doña Dominga C.S., with Luis Huenchul and Felipe Undurraga on Favela and Huasteca, earned 19 points.

The Sello de Raza was awarded to the mare Santa Bárbara de Los Guaicos Farandulera, ridden by Gabriel González.
