The anti-gravity racing genre, once dominated by titles like F-Zero and Wipeout, is seeing a resurgence with new entrants hoping to recapture the speed and intensity of those classics. Although several smaller studios have attempted to revive the genre with varying degrees of success, a new contender, GP HyperSonic, is entering the arena.
Developed by mi-Ian Studio, a Franco-Japanese firm based in Kyoto, GP HyperSonic marks the company’s debut in game development. Mi-Ian Studio describes itself as a design studio with expertise in the textile industry, as well as 3D modeling, texturing and branding for marketing. The emergence of new players signals continued interest in this niche racing subgenre.
Rage and Speed
GP HyperSonic aims to deliver high-speed, anti-gravity racing inspired by the iconic games of the 1990s, particularly F-Zero. The gameplay is designed to be both accessible and cutting-edge. Each ship will feature unique abilities, and players will need to manage their ship’s HP while strategically utilizing a turbo boost that regenerates while braking – rewarding aggressive driving.
The game also introduces a “Berserk” mode, allowing players to channel their pilot’s rage into a temporary frenzy that enhances driving performance. Activating Berserk boosts turbo power and removes speed limits, enabling players to reach supersonic velocities. However, prolonged use can lead to loss of control, and exiting the mode leaves the pilot vulnerable.
Currently, GP HyperSonic does not have a confirmed release date but is planned for PC via Steam. Further updates on the game’s development will be shared as they become available.
