KOMPAS.com – Indonesia is poised to discuss a bid to host the 2028 Futsal World Cup, with the nation’s Futsal Federation (FFI) planning meetings with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI).
FIFA could be swayed to select Indonesia for the prestigious futsal tournament for two key reasons.
First, Indonesia successfully hosted the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, which ran from January 27th to February 7th, 2026, at Indonesia Arena and Jakarta International Velodrome.
The successful and vibrant organization of the Asian Cup is a significant asset in convincing FIFA of Indonesia’s capabilities.
FFI Chairman Michael Sianipar emphasized that the organization has long targeted hosting the Futsal World Cup as a natural progression following success at the Asian level.

Whereas FIFA has yet to make a decision on the host of the 2028 Futsal World Cup, Indonesia faces competition from other nations including Argentina, Morocco, and Kuwait.
“To be honest, when we bid for the 2026 Futsal Asian Cup, we were already thinking that if we succeeded, the next step would be the 2028 Futsal World Cup,” Sianipar told reporters.
Initially, Sianipar had some doubts about Indonesia’s chances of securing the World Cup bid. However, the success of the Asian Cup has significantly boosted his confidence.
This optimism is fueled by the passionate support of futsal fans in Indonesia, which is seen as a major advantage in the eyes of FIFA.

Indonesia Arena’s Atmosphere Stands Out
The electric atmosphere at Indonesia Arena during the 2026 Futsal Asian Cup is considered unmatched by other potential host nations.
“We can tell FIFA to compare the final of the Copa America, European futsal, African futsal, and what happened at Indonesia Arena,” he stated.
“Which was the most lively and exciting? I’m sure the answer is Indonesia,” he added.
FIFA is expected to consider the significant potential for futsal development in Asia, particularly in Southeast Asia.
