NIU Scales Global Operations: Second-Largest Electric Motorcycle Maker Hits Massive Production Milestones

NIU has solidified its position as the world’s second-largest manufacturer dedicated exclusively to electric motorcycles, leveraging a high-efficiency production model to capture significant global market share. The company’s operational scale is anchored by its “super factory” in Changzhou, China, which currently manages a massive footprint of 700,000 square meters.

The facility’s output underscores a relentless pace of industrialization; the assembly lines are capable of producing up to 9,000 motorcycles per day, with a fresh unit completed every 10 seconds. This manufacturing prowess allowed NIU to produce 1,197,978 vehicles last year, reflecting the company’s ability to scale rapidly despite being just over a decade classic.

From a market distribution perspective, the vast majority of these vehicles—1.1 million units—were sold within China. The remaining volume was distributed across international markets, including Europe, where the brand has maintained a presence for nearly ten years. This strategic expansion has yielded results that far outpace the broader industry; while the global electric motorcycle market grew by between 8% and 10%, NIU’s growth rate was four times higher than that of the international business average.

The company’s aggressive growth trajectory highlights its emergence as a dominant force in urban mobility. Beyond its core scooter portfolio—which includes the NQi, MQi, UQi, RQi, XQi, BQi, and KQi series—NIU is diversifying its offerings. The brand is expanding into the off-road sector with the NIUNV series, introducing ATVs featuring electric, plug-in hybrid, and internal combustion propulsion systems.

In a move to optimize its European reach, NIU has recently restructured its distribution in Spain. The regional operation is now led by Alejandro Castanera, a recognized communications professional and expert in the electric vehicle market. This leadership change underscores the company’s focus on refining its commercial strategy as it continues to compete for global leadership in the electric mobility sector.
