Apple has released the latest versions of its operating systems – iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS 26.4, tvOS 26.4, watchOS 26.4 and visionOS 26.4 – to the public.
The iOS 26.4 update introduces several key features, including Playlist Playground, a new AI-powered function within Apple Music. This tool allows users to generate playlists based on text prompts, such as a mood or activity. The update also adds a new widget for Apple Music that plays curated background sounds designed for focus, sleep, or relaxation.
Beyond music enhancements, iOS 26.4 brings a selection of new emoji to iPhones, including an orca, trombone, treasure chest, and ballerina. This addition reflects Apple’s ongoing commitment to expanding communication options for its users.
Addressing user feedback, Apple has also refined its Liquid Glass interface. The update now includes an option to reduce bright flashes and motion effects, improving accessibility for those sensitive to on-screen movement. A bug fix targeting the virtual keyboard aims to reduce typos when typing quickly.
Family Sharing also receives an update, allowing individual members to manage their own purchases and payment methods, rather than requiring all transactions to travel through a single account. This change offers greater financial independence within family groups.
CarPlay will now support third-party chatbot integration, including options like ChatGPT. The Podcasts app gains support for video playback and offline downloads. The Health app can now calculate average sleep duration based on the past two weeks of data.
For enhanced security, the “Stolen Device Protection” feature is now enabled by default. Users in the EU will gain access to cross-device notification forwarding and the ability to pair third-party products using technology similar to AirPods.
According to earlier reports, the Reminders app will also receive a dedicated section for high-priority reminders, and messages sent via RCS protocol will benefit from conclude-to-end encryption.
