IOWA – Polícia v americkom štáte Iowa ešte v živote nezažila prípad, ktorý odhalila počas jedného z policajných zásahov. V pivnici domu našli muži zákona desiatky mladíkov priviazaných o nosné stĺpy. Ako neskôr vysokoškoláci objasnili, nešlo o žiadny únos.
A disturbing hazing incident at the University of Iowa’s Alpha Delta Phi fraternity has resurfaced in recent days after body camera footage from November 2024 was widely shared on social media, prompting renewed scrutiny of fraternity culture and safety protocols. The incident, which involved dozens of blindfolded and restrained students, highlights the ongoing issue of hazing on college campuses across the United States.
Ako scéna z hororu
Police responding to a fire alarm at an Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house on November 15, 2024, discovered a scene described as “horrific” by responding officers. According to Iowa City Press-Citizen, officers found 56 students in the basement of the fraternity house. Body camera footage from the incident quickly circulated online.
The scene was not staged, authorities determined. Some students were partially nude and covered in what appeared to be food substances, while others had their eyes bound. When questioned by police, the students were initially unresponsive.
Eventually, one officer stated: “This ends now, gentlemen. There is police here. Who is responsible for this?”
Rituál pre vstup do bratstva
It was later revealed that the incident was a long-standing initiation ritual for latest members of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. The fraternity’s president attempted to explain the situation to police, stating, “It was a preparatory ritual for initiation. We blindfold the new recruits and make fun of them.”
Police did not accept this explanation. “We responded to an alarm and upon arrival, we tried to get everyone out. But we understand that you refused to evacuate?” police asked, noting the potential danger to the students.
Trest od vedenia univerzity
Following the scandal, the University of Iowa stated it has no tolerance for harassment or bullying. University officials clarified that the recently released video footage dates back to 2024. “We do not tolerate such behavior, not only in university facilities, but also outside of them.” The Alpha Delta Phi fraternity received a suspension from campus last year, and is barred from re-establishing itself until the summer of 2029. No members of the fraternity faced criminal charges.
