Qatar reserves the right to respond to Iranian attacks on its natural gas facilities, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Thursday, March 19, 2026. The statement comes after an Iranian attack on an energy complex in Ras Laffan, an incident that Doha warns could have significant repercussions for global energy supplies.
“There is a team at the energy complex in Ras Laffan working to assess the damage following the Iranian attack,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman stated during a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman emphasized that Qatar, under international law, maintains the right to retaliate for attacks targeting its natural gas infrastructure. The development underscores growing regional instability and potential disruptions to critical energy markets.
The Qatari foreign minister too warned that continued Iranian targeting of Gulf states risks escalating the conflict, stating, “Iran’s continued targeting of Gulf states will expand the circle of conflict, which will not serve the security and stability of the region.”
The remarks were made during a meeting between Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman and Minister Fidan, according to reports from Al-Arab. The two officials previously met on February 11, 2026, in Ankara to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments, as reported by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is leading urgent diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan following recent clashes, according to reports on X.
