Speculation of a large-scale attack on Iran had been mounting for weeks, coinciding with the U.S. Military’s build-up of its largest troop concentration in the region since the Iraq War in 2003. The situation underscores rising tensions in the Middle East and the potential for a significant escalation of conflict.
The move comes just after the latest round of talks regarding Iran’s nuclear program in Vienna. U.S. And Iranian representatives reportedly expressed optimism about making progress during those discussions. Although, U.S. President Donald Trump recently stated he was “not happy” with the talks. He issued a stark warning to Iran, stating, “Either we will have a deal, or we will have very poor things happen.”
Washington is demanding that Iran completely cease uranium enrichment and abandon its program for long-range ballistic missiles. This pressure from Washington is also occurring against the backdrop of ongoing protests within Iran itself. At the complete of January, Trump had promised that “facilitate is on the way” during the height of widespread demonstrations that had been met with a brutal crackdown by the Iranian government.
Analysts had also considered the possibility of a so-called “decapitation strike” as part of a limited military operation.
