Israeli air defenses did not intercept rockets fired from Iran targeting southern Israel, according to a statement from the Israeli military. While the defense systems were activated, they failed to stop the projectiles, Israeli military spokesperson Effie Defrin said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We will investigate the incident and learn from it,” the brigadier general announced.

Approximately 100 people, including children, were injured Saturday evening by several impacts in the cities of Dimona and Arad, officials reported. The attacks underscore the escalating tensions in the region.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Saturday’s shelling of Arad as a “very difficult evening in the battle for our future.” His office released a statement saying, “We are determined to continue to attack our enemies on all fronts.”

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced early Sunday that it had targeted “military installations” and security centers in southern Israel. Dimona and Arad are located near several military bases, including Nevatim Airbase, one of the country’s largest. A highly secured Israeli nuclear reactor is also situated approximately 8 miles southeast of Dimona.
