Despite recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump indicating “great and very constructive” talks with Iran regarding a “final and comprehensive solution to hostilities in the Middle East,” tensions remain high as both nations accuse the other of attacks on critical infrastructure. The escalating situation underscores growing regional instability and complicates ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Trump announced he was postponing a planned strike targeting Iran’s energy network for five days, following the reported progress in discussions. However, Iran announced Tuesday that it had targeted energy facilities in the city of Isfahan and a gas facility in Khorramshahr.
According to the Iranian Fars News Agency, the attacks, described as ongoing “aggression by the American-Israeli enemy,” targeted a gas administration building and a gas pressure reduction station on Kaweh Street in Isfahan. Simultaneously, reports emerged of a strike on a gas pipeline supplying the Khorramshahr power plant.
Fars News Agency reported that the attack on the gas facilities in Isfahan caused damage to parts of the facilities and nearby homes. However, a large explosion was reportedly avoided due to the implementation of “non-military defense measures.” The agency stated the facility had been taken out of service prior to the attack in accordance with safety requirements.
Reports likewise indicated a strike on the gas pipeline serving the Khorramshahr power plant. The acting governor of Khorramshahr confirmed that a projectile landed in an area outside the gas pipeline facility, with no reported casualties. He added that power supplies in Khorramshahr were continuing uninterrupted thanks to the efforts of officials.
Previously, the United States and Israel targeted portions of the Pars al-Janubi refinery, prompting a strong response from Iranian military forces. Following those incidents, the U.S. Reportedly pledged to refrain from further targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure.
