Negotiations Resume Between Iran and U.S. Over Nuclear Program
Geneva is set to host a recent round of talks between the United States and Iran regarding Iran’s nuclear program, as international concerns over its development persist. The resumption of negotiations comes amid heightened tensions in the region and follows a previous session held in Muscat, Oman, earlier this month.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva on Sunday, February 15, 2026, according to a statement from the Iranian state television broadcast on Telegram. Discussions are expected to begin on Tuesday, with Oman acting as a mediator.
The White House confirmed that U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, will also travel to Geneva this week. They are also scheduled to participate in discussions with representatives from Russia and Ukraine.
These negotiations follow a period of increased pressure from the U.S., including threats of military intervention after a crackdown on protests in Iran in January. Despite these threats, the U.S. Has left the door open for a diplomatic resolution, particularly concerning the nuclear program. The development underscores growing regional tensions and the importance of finding a peaceful resolution.
Previous negotiations broke down in June due to a twelve-day conflict between Iran and Israel. While Iran insists discussions should focus solely on its nuclear program, the U.S., along with Israel, is demanding limitations on Iran’s ballistic missile program and an end to its support for regional armed groups.
According to reports, Iran has indicated a willingness to compromise on its uranium stockpile in exchange for the lifting of U.S. Sanctions. Prior to the talks, Israel called for the “dismantlement” of Iran’s uranium enrichment capabilities.
Araghchi met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, on Monday in Geneva, ahead of the formal negotiations. The Iranian Foreign Minister also confirmed his arrival in Switzerland via his account on X.
The Iranian side has welcomed what it describes as a “more realistic” American position regarding the nuclear issue, potentially signaling a shift in the dynamics of the talks. The announcement could influence future diplomatic talks and the possibility of a renewed agreement.
