European powers are signaling a potential shift toward direct military intervention in the Middle East, as tensions escalate following recent attacks and counterattacks in the region. The United Kingdom, France, and Germany have indicated they are prepared to take “defensive military action” against Iran, potentially including strikes on Iranian soil, according to statements released on Sunday, March 2, 2026.
The move comes after Iran launched retaliatory attacks against several countries in the Middle East, which the three European nations – collectively known as the E3 – deemed “indiscriminate, and disproportionate.” Officials stated they would “take measures” to defend their national interests and those of their allies.
