Iran Won’t Halt Attacks Without Future Aggression Guarantee: President Pezeshkian

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has insisted that discussions about ending hostilities are futile without guarantees against future aggression. The firm stance comes amid escalating conflicts involving major powers in the Middle East.

President Pezeshkian addressed the issue in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, referencing a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron regarding what he described as aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran. During the call, the Iranian leader emphasized his country’s position in the ongoing conflict.

“I emphasized that Iran did not initiate this terrible war. Defending ourselves against invasion is a natural right, and we are very skilled at it,” Pezeshkian said, as likewise quoted by Middle East Monitor.

Pezeshkian underscored that any peace talks must be predicated on absolute territorial security. He stated that good intentions to resolve disputes would be meaningless if the threat of physical attacks against Iran’s sovereignty remained.

“Talking about ending the war is pointless until we ensure there will be no more attacks on our soil in the future,” Pezeshkian asserted.

Pezeshkian highlighted the presence of foreign military forces, which he believes are disrupting regional stability. He urged an immediate halt to the utilize of United States military bases in the Middle East to launch attacks against Iran, arguing that such actions damage Tehran’s relationships with its neighbors.

Pezeshkian added that peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved although the United States and Israel continue to attack Iran. He assured that his country would not yield to those carrying out acts of aggression.

“Starting a war with the goal of conquest, based on false information, is a medieval act carried out in the 21st century,” Pezeshkian concluded.
