Iran’s modern Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Jamenei, has vowed that his country will overcome Israel and the United States through national unity. The statement, delivered via a written message marking Nowruz – the Persian New Year – signals a continuation of hardline rhetoric following the recent death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Jamenei.
Unlike his predecessor, who frequently addressed the nation through televised speeches, Jamenei opted to share his message through posts on X, formerly known as Twitter. He did not directly name Israel or the United States as he referenced the “aggressor countries,” but asserted that the “unity among Iranians” is a “great blessing” that should be leveraged.
“In this way, this cohesion will be strengthened more and more and your enemies will be subdued,” the ayatollah said, adding that this “incredible unity” exists “despite all differences in origin, religion, intellect, culture and politics” and will lead to the “collapse of the enemy.”
The remarks come as Iran continues to navigate a period of heightened tensions, having recently been the target of attacks from both the U.S. And Israel. The development underscores the ongoing geopolitical complexities in the region and the potential for further escalation. Mojtaba Jamenei was appointed Supreme Leader earlier this month by the Assembly of Experts, following his father’s death in late February.
