Efforts to initiate talks between Israel and Lebanon have stalled, with Beirut demanding a ceasefire as a precondition while Israel sought a meeting to discuss the possibility of a suspension of hostilities, sources have revealed.

Israel responded with airstrikes targeting Hezbollah-linked sites across Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut. Lebanese authorities reported 570 deaths over the past week as a result of these strikes. The Israeli military stated it has killed more than 200 Hezbollah members.

According to the Financial Times, Israeli officials are preparing for a campaign against Hezbollah that could last longer than the war with Iran. The stated goal of the campaign is to deprive the Iran-backed organization of its ability to attack northern Israel.

One source told the FT that Cyprus had been proposed as a potential mediator for peace talks. However, the source indicated that the plan to organize negotiations does not have the full support of high-ranking U.S. Officials.
