Israel-Lebanon Conflict: Bridge Destroyed, Homes Targeted Amid Escalation

Escalating tensions in the Middle East have led to a direct exchange of fire between Israel and Iran, with Lebanon caught in the crosshairs. The conflict, which began on February 28, saw retaliatory strikes from the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in early March, prompting extensive Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese territory. This development underscores growing regional instability and raises concerns about a wider conflict.

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, the Israeli military targeted a bridge in Lebanon. Footage shared by the Kan television network and circulating on social media depicts a series of explosions on and around the structure.

Al-Dżazira reports that the Kasmiya bridge is a vital coastal route, and its destruction would effectively isolate parts of southern Lebanon from the rest of the country.

Israeli Minister: Military Ordered to Demolish Lebanese Homes

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Sunday that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to accelerate the demolition of Lebanese homes in villages on the front lines, in order to “end the threat to Israeli communities.”

The military was also ordered to immediately destroy all bridges over the Litani River in southern Lebanon, which Katz assessed were being used for “terrorist activity.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) previously reported that nine Hezbollah fighters were killed in clashes in southern Lebanon on Saturday. According to the IDF, the fighters were detected as they approached an Israeli soldier unit.

Israeli media outlets quoted the military and Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, as stating that Walid Mohammad Dib, a senior Hamas operative responsible for financing the organization, was killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon last week. The announcement could influence future diplomatic talks and efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
