Beirut, Lebanon – An Israeli strike in Beirut on Sunday, March 8, 2026, killed three senior commanders from Iran’s al-Quds Force, according to announcements from Israeli officials. The attack, which targeted a building in the Rawshe district, has heightened regional tensions and prompted warnings from Iran.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated the operation was a “precise and targeted strike” against key figures in the Lebanon branch of the al-Quds Force, which operates as a liaison between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah. According to the IDF, those targeted were actively planning attacks against Israel from Lebanese territory. Sky News Arabia reports that the IDF accused the commanders of working to advance terrorist plots against Israel and its citizens from within Lebanon.
IDF spokesperson Ella Wawiye announced the strike on X, stating, “The IDF recently attacked central commanders in the al-Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps who were operating in Beirut.” She added that the IDF “will not allow Iranian terrorist elements to entrench themselves in Lebanese territory and will continue to target and eliminate Iranian terrorist system commanders with precision wherever they operate.”
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that four people were killed and ten injured in the strike on an apartment within a hotel in the Rawshe area. Al Arabiya reports that among those killed were three central commanders of al-Quds Force: Majid Hosseini, who was responsible for transferring funds to various Iranian-backed groups in Lebanon to support Hezbollah and the al-Quds Force.
Prior to the strike, the IDF said steps were taken to minimize the possibility of civilian casualties, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance. Aawsat News as well reported on the announcement of the deaths of the three commanders.
The development underscores the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, often playing out through proxy groups in the region. The strike in Beirut represents a direct confrontation and raises concerns about potential retaliatory actions.
