The Israeli military conducted a strike on a facility near Tehran linked to Iran’s nuclear program, according to a statement released on Thursday, March 12, 2026. The attack underscores the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, and raises concerns about potential escalation in the region.
The Israeli Defense Forces stated that its air force, acting on precise intelligence, targeted a site known as “Telkan,” which authorities say Iran has been using to advance its nuclear weapons capabilities. “The site has been used in recent years to develop advanced explosives and conduct sensitive experiments as part of ‘Amad,’ a secret program to develop nuclear weapons in the early 2000s,” the military explained.
During “Operation Deep Strike,” the Israeli military launched systematic attacks on centers of knowledge and infrastructure supporting Iran’s nuclear weapons program, with the goal of eliminating what it described as an emerging existential threat to the state of Israel. Despite significant damage to the program, the statement continued, Iran has not abandoned its pursuit of nuclear weapons, but has continued to develop and enhance its capabilities.
The military too revealed that Iran recently began rehabilitating the Telkan site after it was previously attacked in October 2024. This latest strike, officials said, represents another step in ongoing efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring the essential components needed for nuclear weapons.
“This attack is another step in the continuous efforts to deny the regime the essential components required to obtain nuclear weapons,” the statement concluded.
