At least nine people were killed Wednesday in Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon, according to reports from the region. The strikes are the latest escalation in ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that four people were killed in an Israeli strike on the town of Adloun, while two others died in a strike on an apartment in the Mieh Mieh Palestinian refugee camp.
Earlier Wednesday, the agency reported that an Israeli airstrike on the town of Haboush resulted in the deaths of at least three people and injured 18 others.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the strikes.
However, the military stated that its ground forces in southern Lebanon “destroyed a weapons depot,” and that the air force “killed a number of terrorists” who were fleeing the targeted site.
The statement added that Israeli forces “destroyed headquarters belonging to Hezbollah, in which large quantities of combat equipment were found,” without specifying the location.
Hezbollah confirmed that its fighters launched several attacks targeting Israeli forces in southern Lebanon and Israel, though there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued a statement earlier Wednesday, published on X, warning of an imminent attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold.
Adraee said: “The IDF continues to work and attack the terrorist military infrastructure of Hezbollah in various parts of the suburbs with increasing force. The IDF does not intend to harm you, for your safety, you must evacuate immediately.”
