Italian Stock Market: Banks & Oil Rise, Amplifon Falls – March 17, 2026

European markets finished the day on a positive note, though selling pressure continued to weigh on shares of Amplifon following a significant correction in the previous session.

Major indexes on the Borsa Italiana and across key European financial centers closed higher on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

The FTSEMib gained 1.22% to close at 44,888 points, fluctuating between a low of 44,204 and a high of 45,129 during the session. The FTSE Italia All Share rose by 1.11%. Conversely, the FTSE Italia Mid Cap declined by 0.06%, while the FTSE Italia Star fell 1.76%. Trading volume on March 17, 2026, reached €3.35 billion, up from €3.17 billion on Monday.

As of 5:25 PM local time, bitcoin had rebounded above $74,000 (approximately €64,500).

The spread Btp-Bund narrowed to below 75 basis points, with the yield on the 10-year BTP settling above 3.65%.

The euro strengthened to above $1.15.

At 5:20 PM, the price of gold had decreased to $5,000, while silver fell below $80.

 

The banking sector saw gains during the trading day.

UniCredit finished positively, increasing 0.47% to €64.14.

Monte dei Paschi di Siena (+2.06% to €7.218) and Mediobanca (+2.21% to €15.985) posted even stronger performances.

 

Oil sector stocks also rose, following an increase in the price of crude oil in New York (April 2026 contract) to $95 a barrel, with an intraday high of $98.50.

Specifically, ENI advanced 3.59% to €23.345.

Tenaris also performed well, gaining 3.61% to €24.11 (LU2598331598).

 

Selling continued on Amplifon, after a sharp decline in the previous session. The stock fell 10.6% to €8.06.

 

A2A (+0.66% to €2.441) was in focus, following the release of its 2025 financial results and guidance for the current fiscal year. The company’s performance is being closely watched by investors.

Among utilities, Enel also saw a rise, increasing 2.74% to €9.916 (IT0003128367).

 

Several companies in the STAR segment also drew attention.

The Italian Sea Group experienced volatility after a significant correction in the previous session, closing down 2.05% at €1.05.
