Tucson Sunrise Walk Aims to Raise Awareness for Men’s Mental Health
A sunrise walk up Tumamoc Hill today, November 7th, 2025, is bringing attention to the critical issue of men’s mental health, offering a space for support and connection within the Tucson community.
The event, called Conquer the Hill, began four years ago and is spearheaded by local personal trainer Jade Blair. This year’s focus on men’s mental health stems from a desire to address a gap in resources and support available to men. “The men in our community don’t have enough support or they feel like they don’t have enough support. They don’t know where to look, the resources that we have in Tucson. So I want them to see that there is a community around us that is here to help them,” Blair said. Participants are encouraged to wear weighted vests or backpacks to symbolize the burdens people carry.
Kyle Bowman, a previous participant who initially supported the event’s focus on women’s empowerment, shared his perspective on the importance of seeking help. “We feel like that we can just push our way through anything, but it’s okay to ask for help,” Bowman said. “Even if we don’t explicitly ask for help, coming to an event like this says that you’re reaching out.” The walk itself is seen as a metaphor for overcoming life’s challenges, with Tumamoc Hill representing the steep climbs we all face. Statistics show men are significantly less likely to seek mental health treatment than women, highlighting the need for initiatives like this.
Conquer the Hill is a two-part event, beginning with the community walk at 5:45 a.m. followed by a gathering at 4th Avenue Coalition at 7:30 a.m. where a panel of men will share their personal experiences. The event is free and open to all ages, with free food and coffee provided, and is also raising funds for Boys to Men Tucson, a local non-profit dedicated to men’s mental health.
Organizers say they hope the event will foster open conversations and connect men with vital resources, and will continue to host similar events in the future.
