Early morning rainfall caused flooding in several neighborhoods across West and North Jakarta on Sunday, disrupting commutes and prompting local evacuations. The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported water levels ranging from 4 to 8 inches in affected areas, including Tegal Alur, Marunda, and Kapuk Muara as of 6:00 a.m. local time. Authorities are currently working to manage the situation, with evacuation centers established and efforts underway to address overwhelmed drainage systems and overflowing rivers.


Jakarta

Flooding impacted parts of West and North Jakarta early Sunday, with water levels reaching between 4 and 8 inches, according to local authorities. The inundation prompted evacuations and road closures as residents braced for potential disruptions.

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that the Kelurahan Tegal Alur, Marunda, and Kapuk Muara neighborhoods were affected as of 6:00 a.m. local time on February 1, 2026.

“Currently, BPBD records show that 9 RTs (neighborhood units) and 1 road are flooded,” said Mohamad Yohan, Head of Data and Information Center at the Jakarta BPBD, to reporters.

Authorities attributed the flooding to overflowing rivers, specifically the Kali Angke and Kali Nagrak. In Tegal Alur, the Kali Semongol river also contributed to the rising waters.

West Jakarta

– Tegal Alur Subdistrict: 2 RTs

Water Level: 8 inches
Cause: Heavy rainfall and overflow from the Kali Semongol river

North Jakarta

– Marunda Subdistrict: 6 RTs
– Kapuk Muara Subdistrict: 1 RT

Water Level: 4 inches
Cause: Heavy rainfall, overflow from the Kali Angke river, and overflow from the Kali Nagrak river

Evacuation Centers:
North Jakarta
1. Marunda Subdistrict
– Nurul Jannah Mosque: 50 families (125 people)
– Robiatul Adawiyah Elementary School: 62 families (225 people)

Flooded Roads:

– Jl. Kamal Raya, Tegal Alur Subdistrict, West Jakarta
Water Level: 6 inches
Cause: Heavy rainfall and overflow from the Kali Semongol river

The Jakarta BPBD has deployed personnel to monitor conditions in affected areas. Coordination with the Public Works Department, Road Management Department, and Fire and Rescue Department is underway to pump out floodwaters and ensure drainage systems are functioning properly.
