TOKYO – A Japanese technology company is now selling a “human washing machine,” a capsule-shaped device designed to clean the human body. The unusual product, priced at over 6.3 billion Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $400,000 USD), reflects Japan’s continued innovation in personal wellness and automation.

The device, developed by Science, debuted at the World Expo in Osaka and has now entered the Japanese market. Users lie inside the capsule, close it, and undergo a full-body cleaning process accompanied by soothing music – all without rotation.

The “human washing machine of the future” garnered significant attention during the six-month-long World Expo, which concluded in October after attracting over 27 million visitors. The concept is a modernized version of a similar invention showcased at the 1970 Osaka Expo, which left a lasting impression on the current president of Science as a child.

The device’s launch comes as Japan continues to be a global leader in technological advancements, often pushing the boundaries of conventional product design. The high price point suggests the initial target market is likely limited to luxury consumers and specialized wellness centers.
