Lithuanian singer Jazzu brought a wave of emotion and positivity to a recent televised music competition, praising the power of love and connection. “I seek to rejoice in what love does to a person. It’s so radiant, so revitalized, so happy,” Jazzu shared, as reported by local media. “New song, new album – everything is new.”
“It’s good and fun to be here tonight. So much music, so many voices. We have incredibly strong soloists, so much beautiful music that my ears and heart will rejoice and rest,” she continued, enjoying the performances.
The competition also provided moments of poignant reflection. After a performance by Mantas Jankavičius and the Kėdainiai choir, Jazzu spoke candidly about the vulnerability inherent in performing. “I see Mantas approaching the status of a stage patriarch, a stage wolf. So much experience – and yet I still see nervousness, trembling hands. It never ends. And that is a wonderful beauty,” she observed.
Liepa and the Klaipėda choir also received praise for their youthful energy, hope, and Liepa’s evident care for the performers, both on and off stage. “Liepa takes care of your well-being and even with slightly crumpled folds,” Jazzu said with a smile.
A personal connection emerged when discussing the Dzūkija choir. “I was pleasantly surprised. Selected people – either from a modeling agency or from the selection of the most charismatic personalities in Lithuania. Since I am half Dzūkian myself, I saw partisans, sensitivity. Wonderful voices, not overly theatrical,” she remarked, recognizing her own roots.
However, the most emotional moment came after the performance by the Marijampolė “Rožinis” choir. As the song “Paukščiai” (Birds) – a favorite of the late Kostas Smoriginas – played, tears welled up in the eyes of both Inga Jankauskaitė and Jazzu. “I take back my words that this song is impossible to tell if you don’t have the experience. It’s incredibly beautiful, the arrangement is wonderful, it’s true music,” Jazzu said through tears. “It’s easy to praise when your captain is the most beautiful and powerful voice on the Lithuanian pop scene. Paulina, when you win a Grammy, take these people with you.”
Rolandas Mackevičius also shared in the emotion: “I’m about to fall apart. I feel like I’m with my children – I experience everything for all of you here.”
“Didysis chorų mūšis” (The Great Choir Battle) airs on Sundays on LNK.
