  • He credits energy and joy as key to his success, alongside intense training.

Zurich’s Joel Mattli is quickly becoming a fan favorite on the current season of «Let’s Dance». Mattli earned a direct pass during the premiere episode, meaning he was safe from elimination on Friday. After wowing judges with a Jive, he and partner Malika Dzumaev (35) demonstrated their skills in the Quickstep, earning 20 points from the judging panel.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the show and I’m incredibly grateful and happy with how everything went,” Mattli said. “But I also know there’s no time to rest.” He acknowledges each new dance presents a fresh challenge, and that the high expectations bring added pressure. “But that incredible experience with our Jive in the premiere was wonderful, and I’ll never forget it,” he added.

Joel Mattli is known for «Ninja Warrior»

Before joining the RTL show, Mattli had no formal dance training. He believes his success comes from a combination of energy and joy, which he allows himself to fully embrace. He’s also putting in a lot of practice. “This is all completely new territory for me. We train from morning till night, and Malika doesn’t give me many breaks,” he explained.

He finds it particularly challenging to maintain focus on all levels. “If you switch off for a moment, you immediately notice it in your posture, wrong steps, or poor facial expressions, for example,” Joel said.

The Swiss competitor previously appeared on the strength and endurance show «Ninja Warrior». His athletic background clearly isn’t hindering his dance journey. When asked which show is more demanding, he responded, “The ‘Ninja Warrior’ shoots are without a dress rehearsal, but the show isn’t broadcast live. Both involve long days, but request me again in three weeks!”

What do you think: Is Joel’s success on «Let’s Dance» due more to talent or hard perform?

Fans Predict Joel Will Reach the Finals

He’s looking forward to all the dance styles he’ll get to try. “’Let’s Dance’ has always been a little dream of mine,” Joel shared. Fans are already predicting he’ll make it to the final, but he remains humble. “I’m of course pleased and feel exceptionally honored. But I also know that every contestant is giving their best, and there’s still a long way to move to the finale.”
