JD.com Launches Joybuy in Europe, Challenging Amazon
Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com launched its Joybuy online marketplace in six European countries on Monday, March 16, 2026, marking a significant expansion into the region and a direct challenge to Amazon’s dominance. The recent platform will operate in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, according to reports from CNBC.
JD.com is differentiating Joybuy through a focus on rapid delivery and high-quality products. The company has invested in building its own logistics network, including local warehouses, to minimize delivery times, offering same-day delivery on orders placed before 11 a.m. In Europe. Customers in the U.K. Will also benefit from free shipping on orders over £29. This approach mirrors JD.com’s success in China, where it has established a reputation for speedy deliveries and a wide selection of global brands.
Joybuy will feature dedicated brand stores from companies such as L’Oréal Paris and De’Longhi, providing a branded space within the platform for companies to showcase their products. The platform’s website and app will sell products across technology, appliances, beauty, homeware, and grocery, as noted by Global Banking & Finance Review.
The move comes as Chinese retailers increasingly gaze to expand internationally, seeking new growth opportunities amid intense competition and weaker consumer demand in their domestic market. JD.com’s expansion includes a 2.2 billion euro ($2.52 billion) agreement to acquire German electronics retailer Ceconomy, the parent company of MediaMarkt and Saturn brands, Reuters reported.
JD.com aims to offer “competitive” pricing on Joybuy, positioning itself against established players like Amazon, as well as other Chinese rivals such as AliExpress and Temu. The launch underscores the growing competition within the European e-commerce market, where both local and international companies are vying for market share.
The company also introduced a new subscription service, JoyPlus, alongside the launch of the platform, further enhancing its offerings to European consumers. According to Global Banking & Finance Review, JD.com is leveraging its own JoyExpress logistics to facilitate same-day or next-day delivery.
