Speaking at a press event on April 6, 2026, at CGV Yongsan in Seoul, Jun Ji-hyun revealed that her decision to return to the screen was driven by her admiration for the filmmaker. “I have always been a ‘huge fan’ of Director Yeon Sang-ho,” she stated, adding that the “streamlined screenplay” was a major draw for her.
Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, a master of the zombie genre, Gunche is a claustrophobic survival thriller. The plot centers on a group of survivors trapped inside a locked-down building during a mysterious infection outbreak, where they must fight for their lives against infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways.

She finds herself trapped in the Dunguri Building during a conference after accepting a suggestion from her ex-husband, Han Kyu-sung, played by Proceed Soo. Leveraging her expertise in biotechnology, Se-jung analyzes the behavior and evolution patterns of the infected to lead the group toward escape.

Director Yeon Sang-ho praised co-star Ji Chang-wook for his intense dedication, noting that seeing how hard the handsome actor worked made him reflect on his own efforts. Meanwhile, actress Kim Shin-rok shared a lighthearted anecdote about the production, mentioning that Ji Chang-wook had to carry her using a traditional A-frame carrier (jige), which led her to feel the require to diet.
Other notable cast members include Goo Kyo-hwan, who described the experience of working with Jun Ji-hyun and Go Soo as feeling like filming an omnibus movie. The event saw appearances from other figures, including Park Kyung-lim, who drew attention with her unique fashion choice.
