Karolina Liukaitytė: Vaikystėje trūko meilės ir supratimo – kaip padėti?

Television personality Karolina Liukaitytė has opened up about a longing she felt throughout her childhood – a desire for more connection and reassurance. “The biggest thing I missed was the feeling that I wasn’t alone in going through unpleasant experiences, unpleasant feelings, that I wasn’t the only one sometimes facing the hostility of the world,” Liukaitytė shared. “I missed understanding that my parents were just as much children, just as much teenagers themselves.”

Another thing Liukaitytė says she yearned for was a simple expression of affection. “I missed the simplest word – ‘I love you’,” she explained.

“We were raised by parents who themselves heard it very little in their childhood, and You’ll see people who have never heard it from their parents in their lives. So, if I were a child or a teenager today, I would want to hear from my parents every day that they love me, that everything is okay, and that they love me for who I am, not for achievements,” Liukaitytė said.

Liukaitytė described her parents as post-war generation individuals for whom providing basic necessities – a roof over their children’s heads, ensuring they stayed healthy, and having enough to eat – were paramount. “Now, as a grown woman, I understand that I was loved, they just did things the way they understood, the way they knew how,” she said. “By the way, I used to climb onto my mother’s lap until I was 14 years old, as long as I could fit.”

The television host’s reflections come ahead of an annual charity concert hosted by LNK and the organization “Save the Children,” highlighting the importance of support for vulnerable youth. Liukaitytė and a group of entertainment figures are now encouraging donations to help children who will one day grow the country’s doctors, law enforcement officials, lawyers, and even parents themselves.
