The colorful co-op platformer King of Meat will be shutting down on April 9, 2026, just six months after its launch, Amazon Games announced on February 23, 2026. The game, developed by UK-based Glowmade – founded by former Lionhead members – allowed players to battle monsters, create dungeons, and customize their characters.

Originally previewed in 2024, King of Meat offered a unique blend of dungeon crawling reminiscent of Zelda and level creation tools similar to Super Mario Maker. While the game initially rolled out on other platforms, a planned Nintendo Switch version has now been cancelled.

According to Amazon, the decision to end development and close the servers comes after the game “has unfortunately not found the audience we hoped for.” All players who purchased the game will receive a full refund from their platform provider in the coming weeks. This closure highlights the challenges faced by smaller, independent titles in a competitive gaming market.

“Players will be able to access and play all existing content until then, so we encourage you to enjoy your remaining time in the game with your fellow Contenders,” the company said in a statement. Amazon Games too expressed gratitude to Glowmade for their partnership and passion throughout the project.
