A Norwegian electronics retailer is generating buzz with an unconventional marketing campaign tied to the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Komplett.no is offering free copies of the game to customers who have a baby on the game’s launch day, November 19, 2026.

The promotion, launched in anticipation of Valentine’s Day, leverages the nine-month timeframe between now and the game’s release. Komplett’s Instagram account posted a playful “life hack”: “hook up today. Get GTA 6 free from us in 9 months.”

The idea for the campaign came from a creative session between Komplett and the advertising agency WAL. The promotion has already garnered international attention, sparking discussions on social media platforms like Reddit and being picked up by news outlets such as IGN.

Many online conversations have focused on Norway’s unique parental leave policies, which apply to both mothers and fathers, potentially reducing the amount of dust the game might collect. The debate continues as to whether these policies will significantly impact the promotion’s success.

“It’s been very successful and has been reposted by many. It has even reached Turkey, Russia and Germany,” Komplett’s Head of Communications, Daniel Hauan, told Sandefjords Blad.

So far, the company has received no negative feedback regarding the wording of the campaign. “I think most people understand that we have taken a humorous twist on something that is known in pop culture,” the company stated.

Komplett hopes the promotion will contribute to higher birth rates in Norway. The company added that they are hoping the game’s release date remains unchanged.

The marketing stunt comes as anticipation builds for Grand Theft Auto VI, slated for release on November 19, 2026. The game represents a significant event in the gaming industry, and innovative marketing strategies are becoming increasingly common to capture audience attention.
