Bulgarian musician Konstantin Katsarov has publicly criticized pop-folk singer Azis following the latter’s recent appearance on the show “Kato Dve Kapki Voda,” where Azis stated he doesn’t care for Freddie Mercury.
“For me, Freddie Mercury is a schizophrenic who jumps, shouts and screams high notes on stage for no reason. I have a background and can share my opinion,” Azis said during the television program.
In a post on his social media page, Katsarov referred to Azis as “a Roma man with artificial breasts” and commented: “Freddie Mercury is the only singer in the world about whom I have never heard a bad word in my life. Even from people with serious mental disorders. But the ‘gay’ singer of chalga music has disproved me. He called the vocal and musical colossus ‘a schizophrenic.’”
Katsarov added that Azis’s comments repulse him, emphasizing: “I had forgotten why this man with a sex life devoid of orientation so strongly repulses me, but he reminded me on Monday. The man who became popular thanks to the intoxication of a nation, thanks to his dresses and several plastic surgeons. For fame and money, he would sell everything sacred he has, not just his intimate preferences.”
According to the musician, Azis’s statement reflects the arrogance and impudence of public figures with non-traditional sexual orientations, which makes “heterosexuals” feel uncomfortable. The exchange highlights ongoing conversations about celebrity expression and public perception within Bulgarian entertainment.
Katsarov also commented on the reactions of other performers, stating: “Alex Raeva and Hilda Kazasyan could also tell something about losing their virginity, but they don’t and I commend them for that.”
In his post, Katsarov shared that he once felt ashamed of a song dedicated to Azis, but no longer feels the same way: “As a child, I sang a song that I was very ashamed of – ‘Song for Azis.’ Not so much anymore.”
