An activist with the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, was doused with acid by an unidentified assailant in the Salemba area of Central Jakarta. The attack has prompted calls for a thorough investigation from Indonesian lawmakers.

“I ask the police to immediately investigate thoroughly who the perpetrator and mastermind are behind this attack and to reveal the motive clearly,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, to reporters on Friday, March 13, 2026.

Sahroni emphasized that the acid attack on the KontraS activist is a troubling development for Indonesian democracy, particularly if linked to the victim’s previous work.
