Manila, Philippines – South Korean President Lee Jae-myung concluded a state visit to the Philippines on Monday, March 3, 2026, marked by cultural displays and strengthened bilateral ties. The visit underscored the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, with a focus on infrastructure, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.

During a state dinner hosted by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. At the Malacañang Palace, the two leaders enjoyed a fireworks display set to the popular BTS song “Dynamite,” according to reports. The gesture symbolized the burgeoning relationship and shared cultural interests between the two countries.

President Lee, addressing the dinner, highlighted the historical connection between South Korea and the Philippines, noting that March 3rd marked the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He expressed gratitude for the Philippines’ support, stating, “Because of the Philippines, which readily joined hands with our people whenever we needed help, we were able to rise as a ‘global responsible nation.’”

The two presidents also witnessed the signing of nine Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) and one implementation agreement, further solidifying cooperation across various sectors. These agreements are expected to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries, officials said.

President Lee emphasized South Korea’s commitment to supporting the Philippines’ infrastructure development, particularly in connecting its over 7,000 islands. He also discussed potential collaboration in the shipbuilding industry, envisioning Philippine-built vessels operating globally and fostering joint growth.

In a symbolic exchange of gifts, President Marcos presented President Lee with a “golden turtle ship,” a replica of a historical Korean warship. This exchange underscored the historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

Beyond the state dinner, discussions also centered on intellectual property and artificial intelligence. According to reports, South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Philippines agreed to exchange data and collaborate on AI initiatives. This collaboration aims to foster innovation and technological advancement in both countries.

President Lee also met with members of the Filipino Korean community, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of overseas citizens.
