Yogyakarta, Sultrademo.co – The Indonesian Civil Service Corps (Korpri) has launched a major initiative to prevent cervical cancer through a program offering one million doses of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

The program, which began in December 2025 across various government institutions, extends beyond civil servants to include the general public, aiming to broaden access to vital preventative healthcare for women. This expansion reflects a growing understanding of the importance of widespread vaccination in combating a significant public health concern.

According to Prof. Zudan, Chairman of the National Korpri Board of Trustees and Head of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN), Korpri’s role is to serve as a strategic partner to the government in supporting national health programs. He emphasized the importance of expanding access to HPV vaccination for civil servants, their families, and the wider community. “Initially, this program was aimed at female civil servants. Though, Korpri decided to expand the scope given that family members of civil servants and the public also need the same protection,” Prof. Zudan stated.

The need for broader access stems from the high incidence of cervical cancer, prompting a policy shift to ensure preventative measures aren’t limited to specific groups. Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women globally, making preventative measures like vaccination crucial.

A vaccination event held in Yogyakarta on Sunday, February 8, 2026, coincided with the 26th anniversary of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM). The event was open to individuals aged 15 to 60 and represented the BPOM’s support for Korpri’s national agenda to prevent cervical cancer.

The Yogyakarta vaccination drive saw a significant turnout, with 370 participants receiving the vaccine – exceeding Korpri BPOM’s initial target of 100. This strong response indicates a growing awareness among the public regarding the importance of HPV vaccination as a preventative measure against cervical cancer.

Dr. H. Sukamta, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), attended the event and praised Korpri’s initiative, noting the positive public response. He believes the high level of participation demonstrates increasing public awareness of the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer and supports a preventative approach to public health policy.
