Kottayam, India – A tragic vehicle collision on Saturday night claimed the lives of two siblings from Chenappady Kizhakekara. Sreenath, 22, and Sreelakshmi, 27, were killed when the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a car. The incident has left their family and community in mourning. Sreenath died at the scene of the crash, and Sreelakshmi succumbed to her injuries later that night while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Cherpunkal. A funeral service for both siblings was held on Monday afternoon at their family home. The accident occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. On Saturday on the Kadappattoor bypass, near the 12th mile marker. Sreelakshmi had arrived in Pala by bus from Ernakulam earlier that evening and was being driven by her brother to Chenappady when the collision occurred. Authorities say the vehicle that struck them was an Innova driven by residents of Vaikom, and the impact sent the siblings flying along the road. Both were rushed to the hospital by ambulance after being discovered by bystanders. Sreenath was pronounced dead Saturday night, while Sreelakshmi passed away Sunday night after being hospitalized with critical injuries. A post-mortem examination of Sreenath was completed Sunday evening, and his remains were transferred to the Kanjirappally Taluk Hospital. A post-mortem examination of Sreelakshmi was conducted Monday morning, and her remains were then released to her family. Pala Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Sreelakshmi was employed at an Infosys office in Kochi and had been visiting family for a wedding. Her wedding was scheduled for April 2nd. Their father, Santhosh, passed away two years ago after battling a brain tumor. The siblings had worked hard to establish themselves professionally and support their family following their father’s death. The loss underscores the fragility of life and the devastating impact of traffic accidents. The only surviving family member is their mother, Sreeja, who works at a clothing store in Kanjirappally.
