KULON PROGO, Indonesia – A motorcycle collision involving a Harley-Davidson and a Yamaha Jupiter MX on Sunday, March 1, 2026, left one person dead and several others seriously injured. The incident underscores the dangers of traffic on Indonesia’s national highways.
The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Local time at the intersection of Jalan Nasional Purworejo–Wates in the Palihan area of Temon district, Kulon Progo Regency, according to reports from the scene.
Authorities say the driver of the Harley-Davidson, identified only by his initials S, is a well-known local businessman and the owner of a cigarette brand, HS. He was riding with his wife, AS, 41, when the motorcycle collided with a Yamaha Jupiter MX carrying a man and his child.
Witness Pratman described a scene of high speed and sudden impact. “The group of motorcycles was traveling from the direction of YIA Airport towards Purworejo at high speed,” he said. “The Harley attempted to overtake a vehicle in front of it, moving into the right lane at the same time the Jupiter MX was crossing the intersection from the south.”
The force of the collision sent the child riding on the Jupiter MX flying into a roadside irrigation ditch. Both the driver and passenger on the Harley-Davidson were thrown from the motorcycle. The Harley-Davidson, bearing license plate Z 5050 MRS, skidded approximately 65 feet before coming to a stop, sustaining significant damage. The seat detached and landed on the side of the road.
Further reports indicate the wife of the Harley-Davidson driver died as a result of her injuries, while her husband remains in critical condition.
